I thought I was buying a good strong desk light. It is not bright at all! Picture thing is nice but again it's primary function lacks huge on illumination. It is really just a picture viewer. Can't set it next to electrical appliances otherwise it hisses at you. Clock radio or computer tower. keep looking

USB key was a great price for a good amount of storage. I've had it for quite some time, and it's stood up to general wear and tear. I've done the following things with it, with no problems:

-Watching movies on an airplane

-Installing operating systems

-Running backup games on a Wii

Works great with all versions of Windows, and have used it on Ubuntu with no problems. Never had any compatibility, storage size, or formatting problems.

The image quality leaves something to be desired. It's a novelty. If you want to display sharp crisp prints: print the picture out and display in a nice frame. The software is cumbersome and not what you would expect with today's one-click gagets.

I have been taking digital pictures for a long time now but have always felt frustrated with the fact that you do not have a quick way to view them without turning on the computer etc. Anyway as these frams became more affordable, I decided to buy this and try.

It turned out to be a great decision. I have a 1 GB SD card that I take pictures on my Canon camera. I popped the card in the frame and voila the pictures started flowing :). It was great to not have to apply rocket science for this to work and pictures being as clear as they came out to be.

Great frame...will recommend to anybody.

My wonderful thoughtful son bought this for me for my birthday knowing how much I enjoy photographing my grandchildren. I hooked the frame up to my PC and tried using a 32 MB compact flash card in it unsuccessfully - I couldn't view the photos I loaded.

Since I wasn't certain if I'd ever used the smaller card before, I decided to try a 2GB card from my camera instead. The frame seemed to download the photos I selected from my computer okay, but when I tried to view them nothing happened. Then I put the card into a high speed card reader and realized every one of the files on the card had been corrupted, even though the files on my computer are fine. Moreover, I haven't been able to delete the corrupted files from the card and neither card will work in my camera any longer.

To Sharper Image's credit, when I called them and explained what happened they agreed to issue a refund to my son for the full amount, including shipping and tax. Nevertheless, I'm still out the cost of two CF cards (about $60) if I can't figure out how to salvage them, so I'm still a little bitter toward the manufacturers. I guess all I can do now is warn others.

"You get what you pay for..." 2010-01-07

This review is for the DP-887 (the one with the silver and metal frames).

I bought this frame based on the few reviews I could find on it here. It received glowing reviews. I checked the specs for it. It had a good resolution (800x600), which was the main selling point, plus it played mp3s and video.

It arrived in the mail in just a few days to my surprise. I opened it and it looked pretty sleek (I was afraid it was going to be a tad bulky). One weird thing that I first noticed was this weird protective film coating the metal frames. I didn't know if it was supposed to be removed or not, but it was peeling in some places, so I started tearing it off. It was very difficult to remove, and there are still some spots around the inner border where I can't get it off. It seems I'll need an exacto knife to remove the last bits. Until then, I'll have unsightly pieces of torn film around the inner border.

After that, I turned on the frame and loaded it up with pictures. The picture quality isn't as good as I thought it would be based on the reviews. I had previously bought two Kodak frames for family members for Christmas. The picture quality was a lot sharper and brighter on those. I'm not complaining that much, because those two frames were 20-40 dollars more expensive than this one. Mainly, areas where there are gradients such as skies appear very pixelated, like the frame has a very limited color palette.

If I could turn back time, I probably would have gone with a more expensive frame from one of the name brands. I don't want to pay shipping to return this, so I guess I'll keep it and maybe hand it down to someone when I decide it's time to upgrade.

Overall a nice frame with decent picture quality. However, it has a severe limitation in that it will only recognize the first 2,000 pictures on a USB stick. A severe limitation that Colby does not describe anywhere in its sales materials (otherwise, I would not have bought it).

With 18,000+ pics on a 4 GB memory stick, the Coby frame does disappoint. With a digital camera, one does tend to collect pictures at an astonishing rate over the years. Forget about constantly updating/changing your memory device to have other pics to show on the Colby. You will tire of this very rapidly.

If you are looking to buy this item and are confused if it is 4:3 or 16:9, you must realize that Amazon puts the reviews for all the different sized frames TOGETHER. Some are 16:9, and some are 4:3. You need to look at the screen resolution and figure it out yourself.

For me, the product was a gift for someone else, and they seem to love it. I'll probably come back and comment better on it's behavior after they have used it for a while and I've had a chance to check it out myself.

I found the unit to be easy to setup and use. It would have been nice to include some instructions on how to achieve the best picture quality. I initially found that large picture files were slow to load and appeared grainy, but after experimenting I'm very satisfied with the results.

First, I used PaintShop Pro to open the photos right in the internal memory. Depending on the photo content I would either reduce the photo overall, or cropped the subject are to fit a 640 x 480 pixel size. Next, I reduced the number of colors to 32K, and saved the picture over the original file.

Result is a faster loading, much more clear image.

Still have not figured out how to get the song to play at the same time the pictures do...should be way easier than this! I like the remote and the swappable covers, but the ease of use is just not there and this is a gift for my parents, who don't like technical things...so was trying to get it all set up for them. Not overly happy.

"Works good." 2008-01-21

I purchased this frame about a year ago and it has worked very well. One thing has been a problem, however. The screen will sometimes freeze up during play if I just load folders of pictures on to it from my PC. I found after trying several approaches that if I use a new SD card, take at least one digital image and then download other images to the same folder then it recognizes the images. I use Picassa2 to export pictures to a lower resolution. I normally put images in folders depending on subject matter or date and the frame can recognize everything.

The documentation for this device does not match the device as shipped, further the documentation is incomplete. When attempting to resolve picture loading issues via customer support I was on hold for 30 min. then cut off. This product was intended for non-technical grandparents, due to the documentation and difficulty in loading images to the frame, it is not ready for this type of use. Please note: the reviewer is a technical writer and trainer with over a decades experience in the tech training field.

I purchased this frame as a birthday gift for my wife who is not computer friendly and has asked for ways to look at all the digital pictures we have without sitting down to a computer. This frame is great. It works well and is easy to set up. I had it going with both memory cards and a flash drive in no time. I resized photos to 480x320 as recommended by another post and that resolution works perfectly.

No complaints and I may buy another one for parents as a Christmass gift. The size is right and the price is great.

This frame is similar to the PF-A700B and I won't re-write what other reviewers have accurately stated about it. Instead I'll comment on the frame's resolution.

There seems to be alot of confusion over this frame's true resolution. The box says 400x234 with a 3:2 ratio, but that resolution does not work well because images get stretched alot. To maintain a 3:2 ratio, the closest matches are 400x266 or 480x320. With some experimentation I found that ** 480 x 320 ** is by far the best resolution to use for this frame. The aspect ratio is correct and the image is the cleanest.

While the frame can display just about any resolution photo, if you want to fit the most photos on a memory card, resizing to 480x320 is the closest match to its native resolution. Anything higher will be scaled down, so something like 1600x1200 will be resized internally by the frame to 480x320 and will not result in any sharper of an image. Be sure to use a good photo editing tool that does a quality job of resizing the image, and your resulting 480x320 files will display perfectly on this frame.

"Pictures are great, if you can get them on the frame." 2009-12-06

I bought two of these frames for Christmas gifts for my 75 year old mother in law and my brother, who are both technically challenged.

Pros:

-The size of the pictures and the quality are wonderful.

-Pictures are luscious and vibrant.

-The color is bright, the auto-resizing works well.

-Price for this 10.4" is equal to the 8" Sony (also a top-end frame)

-mp3 player!

-2G of internal memory for the same price as the HP 1010A3 (512k)

Cons

-The "random" option does not work. at all.

-Pictures are a challenge to load. I have also now spent 3 hours and 2 calls to HP Customer Service trying to copy photos onto this picture frame.

-You can only transfer multiple pictures via a USB connection. If you want to load pictures from a camera's SD card, they need to be copied ONE at a TIME. I wanted to pre-load 350 or so pictures of grand kids for my mother-in-law. (What a neat present for Christmas!)

-Because this frame is so new, there are no drivers available online. My computer didn't recognize the frame as a device, so on my first call to HP, I was told, "Sorry, you'll need to copy each picture individually." My second call was more helpful. We managed to get the frame recognized, where it cycled in and out of my computer every 5 seconds.

I'm giving up. Mother-in-law is getting a Ceiva, brother-in-law probably a Pandigital, I know those work.

I don't normally do the review thing, but in this case I decided to take a few minutes. For Christmas this year I decided to give a few of these digital picture frames. I purchased two of the philips frames for my mother and mother in-law. While shopping I decided I'd like one to. In an effort to save a few dollars I decided I didn't need one as nice as the parents so I opted for the TAO 5.6" Mahogany Modern Digital Picture Frame. While waiting for them to be delivered I created a folder of photos to put on the frames. The two philips frames showed up on the same day as the TAO! We immediately opened the two different frames and started loading pictures on them. The TAO was SO HORRIBLE next to the philips, that I had to send it back and purchase a philips for myself. My husband and I both tried to think of someone else we could give the TAO to for christmas but with the philips sitting right there displaying such beautiful crystal clear pictures we couldn't think of anyone we would want to give the TAO to.

Picture quality is MUCH better on the philips and it feels like a better quality product when you hold it. The TAO felt and looked like junk. When we loaded up the same exact picture (quality and size)and stood the two side by side the picture on the philips was sharp and brite on the TAO it looked like the photo was out of focus. The photos were loaded on the TAO first, and at first I thought there was something wrong with my photos until we loaded them on the philips and saw just how great they looked. I tried every possible picture size and quality on the TAO trying to get it to look good, none did. On the philips every picture looked good on our first attempt!!

At first the philips interface was a little more confusing then the TAO but after using them both for a few minutes the philips was actually easier to navigate around.

The philips has a ton more options then the TAO as well.

We were able to load about 60 high quality 720 x 540 photos onto the philips and still have room for more. While 60 photos seems to be plenty we decided to pick up a 1 gig memory card so we could test out the video feature as well. Got them for the two gifts as well.

While the TAO has more internal memory and a remote control (remote doesn't come with the philips) those are the only two things it has over the philips. What good is a remote control and more memory if the quality of the pictures are so bad. In some cases it was hard to make out what the picture was. The philips comes packaged with everything you need to get started. The TAO does not even come with a USB cord or software, both came with the philips. The philips was packaged much nicer then the TAO as well.

All my pictures transfered quickly and easily onto the philips. On the TAO in some cases we had to transfer the same pic two or three times as it wasn't there on the first and second attempts.

I really put some thought into whether or not the TAO just seemed like a terrible product because the philips was so much nicer in every way and sitting right next to it. In the end I decided that even if I had never seen the philips I would have returned the TAO anyway.

The battery is also a nice feature on the philips that the TAO is missing.

I can go on and on about how wonderful the philips is and how horrible the TAO was but I think you get the picture (no pun intended!)

Spend the extra $30 dollars... You wont be disapointed!

I was originally looking for a different kind of alarm clock but I saw this and liked that it has divx and MP3 players, radio and USB port. I paid around $48 for it new. There are one or 2 things I would change, such as the buttons are not back lit so you have to remember where the buttons are in the dark. Also I would allow the default photo to be changed, so you don't have to go back to viewing the displayed photo when you remove the flash drive, or perhaps allow both the SD slot be used at the same time as the flash drive.

But apart from that this is a very nice unit and I would recommend it to anyone.

This is just a great item for the office. You could watch your photos randomly, videos and hear your mp3 or radio. The only thing is that it doesn't have an ear plug and that while in clock mode the pictures won't change. I will definitely buy it again.

This alarm clock was great while it was working. You could place photos on it and it looked real nice on our mantle. When one day it decided to shut off and never comeback on. Not only were we late for work the warranty was up on the product by like 8 days. The Screen was bright and beautiful the time would lose minutes every now and then. Like if we set it at 11:41 exactly with our phones, two weeks later we would look at our phones and it would be 11:41 and the alarm clock would say like 11:38. Waste of cash!!!

I first saw this clock on a Best Buy display over their clock radios. But they don't even stock this radio!

This is a good alarm clock with lots of extra features. I like the big numbers, the brightness controls, and the personalized photos features. It doesn't seem to have a slide show feature for your pictures when you are in "clock" mode. But that's minor.

I've had this radio for at least 3 months and it has a lot of features and then some. Some of these features are auto-dim light, dual timers, plays divx movies,doesnt have any internal memory must use those mini usb drives or an sd card, wake up alarms ( radio, church bells,buzzer,forest,sinigng birds, and ocean wave), only has an fm radio no am, 2 small speakers on the front of the radio that put out good sound with auto tuner and 20 presets. I like that this radio has large numbers for the time and displays day, date, and month, and shows alarm time and a picture on the right. You can also change from 12h to 24 h time and you can change color of background for clock from blue, green, red, and purple. You can display the pictures in regular format or widescreen but in widescreen the images get cut off and in regular mode you get 2 bars on the sides of the photo. Even though this radio did have some feaatures that i didnt like such as picture resizing and no internal memory it was a good purchase in the end. This is the only digital photo frame that has dual alarms, a radio, has 3 sleep modes that shut off in 15,30,60,90,120 increments, and a buzzer that gradually gets so loud you can hear it from one end of the house to the other. There have been many a morning when I have woke up and thought what is the day today? This radio saves me the worry about that thankgod ! It is definately worth paying $50 or less for this radio but any more than that and you might as well buy from a seller. This is an ok radio that basically has the features that I wanted. I only gave it 4 stars becaus no internal memory for the outrageous price of almost one-hundred bucks. Most digital picture frames dont have the features that this one has thats why i bought it from a seller for $50. thanks.

I just bought this product through [...] and it arrived in short order. As others have pointed out, the manual instructions are not the greatest, but after a little while I was able to figure it out. I managed to upload several pics from my camera by inserting the memory card and copying over the pics to the internal memory (yes, it did have internal memory), then added more pics from my computer using the USB mini port and also copied over a few music files. Great news, the slideshow did play w/ music, you have to set the music to play on the music set up menu.

I agree that the stand is flimsy and may be problematic down the road. The picture quality is great and the music plays beautifully. Although, I noticed a few times that the music had a slight break, then continues on. Well I'll see how it goes. This is a Christmas gift for my mom and I am really hoping all goes well. I got a really good deal for the price!

Instruction manual includes Vista on the list under "System Requirements" but "...computer says NO!" and won't let you install. I feel Amazon should have included for Windows 98 only this somewhere in the item description.

I was a little troubled when the first computer I tried to instal the keychains program on wouldn't work. But then I took a deep breath and tried again. For some reason it went smoothly the second time. After the tentative start I wasn't holding my breath that it would work well.

I was plesantly surprised. Not only could I put the pictures in any order I wanted to it turned out the pictures were crisp and clear and best of all the keychain itself was very easy to use. It was a gift and the person I gave it to adored it. I love that the keychain doesn't requires batteries but charges in the computer. So far it hasn't needed charged yet.We don't keep it on all the time but it's been watched a few times.

For the price I'd say this keychains a definate yes.

I bought the Kodak 8-inch digital frame for my mom for Christmas and immediately ordered this faceplate to give to her as well. The black plastic edge of the stock frame just seemed a little cheesy, especially compared to the outstanding quality of the image display and the touch border design. It was just pretty clear that Kodak focused on the functionality of the product first and the aesthetic as a bit of an afterthought. This faceplate is very simple - it goes right on your frame and is held in place by those little rotating clips in the back, like a regular picture frame. Although it's plastic, the color and slim profile gives the appearance of a wooden frame, especially from a distance. It definitely did the job I was hoping it would - dressing up the Kodak frame a little without being overbearing and plastic-y looking, or increasing the overall size too much.

Considering that I bought the item on sale, at a pretty good price, it is a moderately good buy. At full price I would have been very disappointed.

First of all, the frame is very cheesy, not even as nice as most plastics or composites that are used now-a-days.

Secondly, the operation is not as straight forward and user friendly as it could be.

Finally, there are few options, such as transition types or effects. As a digital picture frame, it functions, and it does hold a good number of pictures in its memory, and again... the sale price was great.

I love this. Audiovox made the homebase easy to install. We have ours on the fridge. I have scanned all of our refridgerator pics. into it. The idea of having a digital picture frame with message is great. However, this product is a bit hard to use. There are 4 buttons: menu, message, and up & down. The buttons often have contact problems, and I have to press many times to get it started. And you have to do everything with these buttons, so it is a pain. But I guess it is still better than just a digital picture frame...

Initially I was impressed by the design of this unit... Hey, a 7" Digital Photo Frame, a message , a calendar and space for notes. Pretty good. However, the set up and controls are a hassle and took the smile off. Then when I turned on the photo viewer I found out that the quality was pathetic. The photos are grainy, the colors are saturated and over all a disgrace. Audiovox provides no adjustment to tone down the overpowering reds and balance the ever present green. You won't want to show the full 7" photos, thus, the best you can do is set the display to thumbnail and split screen it with a clock. It is sad that Audiovox coulda/woulda had a good product if they would not have cut the corners to save a few bucks and chose to put in a descent display. This is not an inexpensive product but it is cheaply made one. Sad. Not Recommended.

I did not read the small print on the size. It said to display pictures I was thinking 3X5 or 4X6 size wise. They are small and portable. The kid still like them but the pictures are small for those that need something bigger for failing eye site.

The frame was very basic and had to be on all the time unless you took it of the wall to reach the off button. It burned out and quit working after 8 months.

I purchased this frame unsure if I even wanted one. See I bought 2 friends digital frames for Christmas because they are always pulling out their digital cameras to show us pictures. After listening to them rave about their gifts, I decided I will buy one for myself except they had tripled in price (different brand, much larger frame). Of course I settled for buying a less expensive frame (which meant a smaller frame)so I chose this one. Initially, I kept getting a "bad card" error which I didn't understand because the card worked perfectly well in my camera. Also, I had several extra memory cards on hand and neither of them worked. At last ditch effort, right as I was getting frustrated, I pulled the card out of my 9yr olds camera and inserted it into the frame and instantly, the pictures began to roll. Turns out the frame was not SDHC compatible (don't remember reading that anywhere in the specs).

I was amazed at how well her photos displayed on the frame and how easy it was to set-up (after I had the right card). My daughter was so excited watching her pictures roll on the screen that I did'nt have the heart to take it away from her.

I can't comment on its ability to connect to the TV or any of the things other reviewers were trying to do but if you want a nice frame to simply display pictures and super-super easy to operate, then this is the one....

FYI - Upon looking for another frame for myself, I found this exact model at my local Sears for under $30.

"Inexpensive and simple but lacks needed features and resolution" 2008-12-24

This is a VERY basic frame with very limited features. It is fairly simple to use: just copy your pictures to a SD card (I used 1G) and plug it in. It will automatically begin playing. However, that's where the "good" ends. There is no USB interface to connect it to your PC. Also even though the documentation states that you can download editing software from the vendor's site, the software isn't there. Worse, the frame is no longer listed. It appears that this frame is discontinued and the newer frames (which all appear much more capable) have the software built in. Navigation between photos is a joke. You can only go forward or backward, or rotate a picture. The "mode" command merely switches between full and resized ("crop") mode, which is pointless because there's no way to scroll to view the un-cropped pictures which don't fit the screen. Resolution is very poor with max 480x234 resolution. Pixels are visible on every picture. It will show very high resolution photos (I tested with everything from 2572x1928 to 385x289) but there is no difference in display quality on the screen. Thus if you wish to cram more pictures onto the card, you can manually resize them. Unfortunately, as stated previously, the advertised software to resize the pictures appears to be unavailable. The frame allows photo rotation, but it applies it to all photos so you have to keep rotating back and forth. It's best to reformat all images before viewing them on the frame.

Bottom line: This is a inexpensive and simple frame with low resolution. I purchased it as a gift for my elderly mother and I'm sure it will suit her purposes fine. But for anyone looking for a quality frame with even minimal features, look elsewhere.

Received item w/ scratches and appeared used or a return. Poor quality frame. I bought this for a gift but felt quality was too cheap and damaged to give away. Also, would never buy from Adorama. Wouldn't cover the shipping costs even though they sent me a defective product.

"Great frame for the money!" 2009-12-23

I just gave this as a gift to a coworker. I was looking for something inexpensive and simple so she could see her photos while working. At under $40, this fit the bill. It is certainly not as fancy as more expensive frames but it does what it should. It's extremely simple to use. My only complaint is that the resolution is not the best but if you are not looking at it up close (which typically you wouldn't with this type of frame), the photos look great! My coworker loves it and has been bragging about what a great gift it was all day.

This product is just fine. No, it doenst look like the photo, and it is black, but it most certainly doesnt look like a toy. I could really careless about ratios and resolutions, the pictures on my memory card look good on this frame. I got this for my mother in law for Christmas and I'm sure she will love it. I would recommend this picture frame to anyone who isnt super picky and has to have high end everything. You cant ask for more when you only spend $38.00!

I just got this frame and it's nothing like in the picture above, I'm very disappointed.

I'll try to include real pictures in "share your own pictures" section.

Made of plastic, with rounded edges, it looks very cheap, almost like a toy.

The screen resolution is not 800x480 as described in the other review, it's actually 480x234.

I regularly buy stuff from Amazon, and this is the first time that a product was falsely advertised.

"Good Resolution, Basic Features, Some Limitations" 2008-11-05

This frame has a very good screen resolution (800x480) for its price range. Also has very simple controls and operations. If you are looking for a feature-rich frame with sophisticated on screen menu, this frame is not for you, but if you are looking for high resolution frame with basic features at a reasonable price, this frame fits the bill.

While the majority of digital cameras shoot with the aspect ratio of 4:3, this frame as well as almost all other frames are wide-screen, with the aspect ratio of 5:3. I don't understand why there should be some conflicting standards for two items that go hand in hand, it reminds me of the packaging buns and hot dogs. In any case, this frame shows the pictures in landscape only. If you want your landscape pictures to be shown in full with no white space around them, you have to manually crop them to give them a 5:3 aspect ratio before you put them on the memory card. Otherwise, you have to use the frame's Mode button to use either of its three display modes (Full, Auto-fit, Pan-scan). The Full mode will stretch the picture to fit the width of the screen, thus to some degree distorts the image. Auto-fit shows the whole picture, therefore showing a 4:3 picture on a 5:3 screen will leave white space (actually black space) on both sides. Pan-scan, which is the default mode, matches the width of the image with the width of the frame, thus to show a 4:3 picture, the fame crops from the top and bottom of the image to bring it to 5:3 aspect ratio, so the crop is done automatically, but not at your discretion.

It has auto slide-show with nice random transitions to show pictures at three preset speeds. The default is fast (6 seconds on each picture). By pressing the Time button on the back of the frame, you can switch to medium (15 seconds), or slow (30 seconds). For the slide-show, if you want the pictures to be shown in a specific order, there is no control for that. To achieve that, you have to copy the pictures to the memory card one by one in the order you want them to be shown, because the frame shows the pictures based on the copy date/time stamp.

The frame can only show pictures in JPEG format, but for many that shouldn't be a problem, as this is the most popular format. However, you need to know something that I learned the hard way. I had many JPEG pictures that this frame could not show. These are normal JPEG images that can be shown by all browsers and graphic program in the computer, yet the frame could not show them. I played with their resolution and other properties, to no avail. Finally, it turns out that if an image has been saved by a photo editing software (I use PhotoImpact), although it is saved in JPEG, the frame cannot show it. The frame can only show the images that come directly from a digital camera, or saved by Microsoft Paint program. So when I called the images the frame could not show into Windows Paint program and saved them with Paint, they could be shown in the frame. I contacted Aluratek's technical support, but they responded that they do not have any solution for this problem yet.

Another thing that I learned by experience is the that Off button (holding the Play/Pause button for 3 seconds) turns off the screen, but does not reset the circuits. In few cases the frame showed a distorted image. I turned the frame off using this button, to no avail. When I unplugged the frame and plugged it back in, everything turned out OK.

Another behavior about this frame which I do not like is that when you turn it off (unplug it) it looses all its setups and when you turn it back on, everything goes back to the default. For example, if you change the transition speed to medium (15 seconds) or slow (30 seconds), when you turn it off and on, it is back to fast (6 seconds).

Overall, in my view if you can live with a few small flaws, it is a good frame with very good resolution at a reasonable price.

Was looking around for a decent quality photo frame to gift to a friend. This frame was well within budget and had good features.

It displays decent resolution photos, also plays MP3s along with the slideshow, and has 128mb inbuilt memory, which is sufficient for 100-200 photos @ 800x600 resolution.

The only disadvantage I found was that writing to its internal memory was pretty slow.

The display never worked, just shined bright white, even though the software confirmed that my pics were loaded properly. Also, the common complaint about the internal battery never taking a charge is true. This is the kind of garbage product that demands a class-action lawsuit, if only to punish shoddy manufacturing.

The frame is more beautiful than the picture. The clarity is not as great as I've seen in some for the money. I purchased it to match the decor in my home, but the picture clarity is lacking (brightness in particular) and volume extremely low. Would likely be better in an office setting than a home. My $60.00 generic frame does a much better job a picture display, but the frame is not near as nice. Your satisfaction with this product will depend on what is important to you.

Unlike the negative comments this frame has, it is actually a great product. People who complain about it must have limited computer knowledge because their is no software just copy pictures to the memory form of choice and stick it in the frame. They frames can be put in a specific order by numbering them. Try 01 or 001 to start if you have more than 10 or 100 pictures to play. They only real downfall is you cannot upload them onto the frame itself, but other frames like the kodak has limited memory anyway holding only about 15 or so pics. So buy the cheaper product and by a jump drive...also cheap! Good luck!

I bought this as a Christmas present for my mom and dad. I thought that the high resolution (higher than the Kodak) would produce a good picture. I bought my brother the Kodak with a lower resolution but it turned out to be a much better frame. No matter what the resolution of the picture, this frame had a terrible picture. What a disappointment on Christmas morning. not only was the picture bad but now I had to pay to return it. what a kick in the face. do not buy this frame. pay a little more and get a better frame.

It does what it says, but it was clumsily programmed and the operation/menu is sometimes quite awkward. Remote must be pointed to left top corner of frame or it won't work. Slide show plays pictures in alphabetic file name order - can not figure out how to make it shuffle. Pictures themselves are of poorer quality on the frame than on my camera or on my computer. I chose it because it is compatible with a USB drive - one of few on the market that is (which, by the way, makes absolutely no sense!)

This cute gadget is just what I expected...well actually, the quality construction was a pleasant surprise. The photo quality is a bit grainy but just right for the gimmicky nature of a keychain photo viewer. The internal software made cropping and transferring photos a no-brainer. I pre-loaded it with 100 photos of my baby and it will go into Grandpa's Christmas stocking.

I didn't have very high expectations for a photo displaying keyring that only costs about $10.00.

But I was surprised. This little gadget holds up to 99 photos, is easy to load with your photos and the clarity of the displays is excellent.

I have been letting my Granddaughter test it as well and she loves it and her friends are all amazed by it.

The one negative that cost it one star is that the download software hangs every once and a while.

I simply abort it and restart it and it keeps on trucking but it can get a little annoying when downloading a large number of photos at one time.

I have a caution here. My system has been sick for a while (Windows Vista Ultimate 64 bit - SP2) and has had problems with even IE hanging up on me, so I can't definitively say that the hangups are the fault of the provided software. Once I get my system working right I will try a mass reload again and if there is no problem with the software hanging up then, I will update this review to reflect that fact.

You get what you pay for. From the beginning, the SD slot of this frame only registered every other time the frame came on. i had to manually eject and reinsert SD card to get it to be recognized by the frame. Kind of a problem for the automatic timer feature. The controls aren't user friendly or intuitive, either. there's 2 buttons by which you're intended to accomplish everything. Lastly, after 5 months, the screen faded and went dark. It's under warranty but if you haven't bought one yet, don't!!

Initially, I loved this digital photo frame. The pictures were sharp and clear. The only downside was that the slide show plays in the order that your pictures are on the memory card (there is no random shuffle) and there is no automatic on/off timer. But I was ok with that...UNTIL...after about 6 months, the display got progressively darker and eventually faded out entirely. Assuming I had a defective unit, I exchanged this one for another one. It's been about 10 months now and it's DOING THE SAME THING! To make matters worse, my friend has also owned two of these frames and they both did the same thing, eventually having no display at all. Four units purchased over the course of 18 months, all meeting the same untimely death? Something is wrong with this product!

"Good Display - Poor Control Features" 2009-06-01

My in-laws purchased this digital frame for me as a Christmas present last year. Although the frame already has 1 dead pixel, the image quality is great. I really enjoy have such a large screen with such high quality on my desk at my office.

The downside to this frame is that it will only display images in alphabetical order. There is NO RANDOM function to allow random-playback of your photos. I'm really surprised that such a simple option is not available, and when I emailed Sunpak about it, they replied with a "sorry" standard email back. Would be nice if they would make a flash update available with a random play feature.

It is also very slow and tedious trying to copy images to the internal memory. The USB link did not work for me, and copying images from a memory card in a "image-by-image" ordeal. Yes, you literally have to select an image, then navigate the menu to copy it to the internal memory, then navigate back to the memory card and the next image. There is no way to do a batch copy of all your images to the internal memory! So, I have placed my images on an SD card and plug it in... the frame plays those with no problems (FAT/FAT32 only, does NOT read NTFS)- in alphabetical order.

So, I love the images playing on the frame.

I'm frustrated at my lack of control over playing those images!

I would not buy this frame again... I would make sure that I can get a frame with a random-play mode for any future frames.

"a little disappointed" 2009-12-09

Picture quality seems great, I found the remote not very responsive however. I bought 3 of these and none seem to respond well (you need to push the buttom multiple times to get it to respond). This is really annoying when sorting/selecting thru hundreds of pictures. Also disappointed that you can't select the order of the pictures. They didn't load according how they were taken on my memory card, for some reason all of the pics loaded randomly on the page so it's a HUGE amount of time consuming work to seperate these all into folders which so far appears to be my only option for some order to them.

I purchased this as a gift for my parents for Christmas. I am returning it tomorrow and hoping I can grab something else for them.

First: I am shocked that the only way I can upload photos is either BlueTooth or via a memory card. I can't hook it up to my computer and just upload pictures with a USB cord.

Second: It keeps freezing on me. I have 61 pages of photos to scroll through on my memory card. But I can't seem to go more than 8 - 10 pages without it freezing.

Third: I finally did get a few photos uploaded, and went to view the slide show, and it corrupted one of them.

I would not recommend this.

I absolutely love this frame. Got it as a gift and was surprised that it had a 1024x768 resolution. So much nicer than my smaller frames. I noticed that some people are complaining about the interface, but I rarely use the interface. Just plug in an SD card with my favorite Flickr photos downloaded and let it slideshow continuously. I have a lot of tech friends and every single party we have, someone notices it and is surprised by the quality of photos.

I received the 10.4 frame as a a gift. The automatic on/off did not work & after many calls to tech support I was asked to send it to them. It was found to be defective (I had to call them at least 3 times to get this info)so I was told they would send me a new one. It took almost 3 months and half a dozen calls to get this accomplished. The new one came in a huge box with no packing at all. The automatic on/off does not work on the it either. When I called I was told that the warranty was no longer in effect--even though it was a new frame, the warranty only applied to the original one. I could not get a manager to speak to me. After spending $35 to sent the original back & my daughter's $200 for a defective frame, plus absolutely no customer service--I would not recommend any Pandigital product.

I bought two of these frames for 2 sets of parents. I was surprised at the button response on the unit--it was lousy (the remote works better for controlling menus). I think the biggest disappointment is that this is a product to display photos and smack in the left quadrant of the display is a digital clock stamp. Why? and why can't it be turned off? When I looked at the box for this product, the promotional photo frames display no clock--If I had known that the clock was there and could not be turned off I would have bought something else. Maybe this is picky, but remember getting snapshots with a date stamp on them? cheesy! I expected more of a $200 product.

I bought this frame for my mother (age 87) for Christmas. I loaded lots of pictures on a 4GB SD (it doesn't support USB Flash). When I put the SD in the frame it said "bad disk." I tried the disk on another frame (different brand) - no problem, worked fine. Then I tried a 2GB SD out of my camera. Still said "bad disk." I emailed and called customer service for Smartparts on December 29, 2008. I found an old 512 MB SD. I tried it and it worked. So I loaded pictures on it. This frame will not support larger SD cards. However, my mom loves watching the pictures and quality is not bad. (By the way, Smartparts customer service called me yesterday (February 4, 2009) to see what kind of support I needed.)

Simple, intuitive design. We bought this frame mostly because we needed a digital photo frame that would accept an SDHC (high capacity) memory card (most of the digital photo frames accept SD cards, but can't process the high capacity cards). The camera that the recipient has uses SDHC cards, so we needed a frame that would allow the transfer of photos by simply taking the SDHC card out of the camera, and popping it into the photo frame (no computer involved). This frame immediately started playing the photos on the card (we didn't need to look at the instructions). We still haven't bothered to check out what all you can do with this photo frame because we already have accomplished what we wanted from it, but at some point we may be curious enough to access more options.

We chose the RED frame because the recipient of this gift LOVES red (there is no other color in his universe). The red that Sony chose is a really nice hue--it has an upscale "glow," and is a true red (not a burgundy, or a brick red).

We are very pleased with the look, and ease of use of this photo frame.

So far all the photo features work nicely and the process of uploading photos from a computer work seamlessly. I am not sure how long the remote will continue to work as the "buttons" are small and hard to isolate and push down.

One of the clock features (old analog type) that my in-laws particularly liked started pixelating or breaking apart on the screen so that you could not see the clock anymore. Email advice from Sony to do a "re-set" did not solve the problem. We do not use that feature any more and selected a digital like clock with the date instead.

Other than that, I am satisfied with the product.

I took weeks researching digital picture frames, carried an SD card with some of my favorite photos with me as I went on my hunt for a picture frame. I visited every electronics retailer in my area testing many different brands and models in my price range and after i made my decision I purchased this item from Amazon because they as expected always have the best price! You won't be dissapointed with this picture frame. Excellent picture quality, more than enough memory (256MB) and support for just about every memory card format out there.

I bought this for my dad for Christmas ... and he Loves it! So do I.

It was Extremely Easy to setup. I did not use the built-in memory. I bought a 2 GB memory card for $6.49. I pulled the photo frame from the box and plugged it in. It automatically started in demo mode and displayed the demo images. I copied my dad's images to the external memory card that I bought. When I insert the card into the photo frame it automatically began displaying them ... changing pictures every 10 seconds. It really was just that easy!!

I used the remote control to change the display time from 10 seconds to 1 minute. I set the date and time and that's it. Done.

The display is great! Before I bought this I went to Best Buy and compared this unit (DPF-D70) to others and by far the Sony is superior. While at Best Buy another shopper was also comparing quality and chose the Sony.

This is a Great product that I will buy again as a gift for others.

Just depends on what you want out of your digital photo frame

I have one of these and love it. The speaker sounds awful and pic quality isn't all that great, but this is the most versatile of many I've seen! Two persons said mine was much more versatile than their brand names. My eyes aren't so great so I don't need a crystal clear picture. I got one for someone as a gift, and this is the one they preferred after comparing!

There was a thin white line running down the left side of the screen, about 1/4" in from the side.

All of my pictures were oriented vertically, but the frame showed some horizontally. I could figure out how to get them to rotate, but the next time that photo came up it had to be rotated "manually" again.

My mother in law received the GPX 7-Inch Digital Photo Frame in Dec. 2009. It is now only four months later and the frame quit working. It lights up for about a second saying it's "loading" and then immediately shuts down. I wouldn't recommend this frame to anyone. Especially after reading many reviews about it online. I'm glad it was a gift and she didn't fork out that kind of money for a frame that only works for four months!

GREAT little digital photo key chain for the price! I prefer to accessorize my purse with it! It will hold up to 180 PHOTOS, that is a lot of pictures compared to the other digital key chains I have seen out there. I LOVE it too because it keeps my younger children entertained standing in line at the grocery store, post office, doctor's office, etc.. I keep photos of my children, their grandparents, cousins, friends, & more. At this price it also makes an AWESOME gift. I have given as a gift to friends and family, with a few pictures already downloaded for them to enjoy and then they can add their own. My 10 year old daughter has also given one as a gift to a good friend with some FUN pictures of them hanging out. I would definitely buy another one again!

I purchased this item from Amazon for a friend. As soon as the pictures were downloaded they frame stopped working, and I have yet to get any resolve from the manufacture or from Amazon. I filed a claim with the company itself and they took the claim and several days later they responded with they couldn't do anything I had to go through Amazon for the product to get replaced. I suggest not buying this product because it is not worth the hassle. The frame looks great but the only thing on the screen from the first day was black lines, not quit what I bought it for...

This was a great Mother's Day gift choice for my elderly mom! Was looking for a more traditional frame and this one is very pretty. I just created a folder of pictures on my MacBook, dragged and dropped into the frame. Works like an external hard drive. Very Easy! The speed of the slideshow is adjustable (great for older people), music can be added, etc. She loved it and my sisters (who had all donated family pictures to the project) agreed.

One has already ordered for her husband's business office for Father's Day.

This is the only pretty - not contemporary - frame I could find and it was a good buy. I highly recommend.

I bought this frame for my mom. I put all the photos on before I gave it to her as she's not very techy. The software is so easy. All I had to do was select the photos I wanted and drag-and-drop them onto the frame. I love that it has an auto-on and off timer. The only thing missing is I wish the photos could display in random order instead of only A-Z by file name. Overall, I am very happy.

Though Aluratek is an unknown Chinese company I bought this frame because I wanted one with a large format and an attractive frame. Should have known better. Warranty is ONLY 90 days and 2 days after the warranty expired the frame stopped working - went completely dead. You will read other reviews where others had the EXACT SAME THING HAPPEN. $180 up in smoke! When I read the fine print I saw they said you can only have this turned on 8 HOURS A DAY! That is ridiculous and this is the only frame I have seen on the market with such a stipulation. I will bet that those giving this a good review are back in a few weeks raising h*ll because their frame stopped working and they are screwed too. Do yourself a HUGE favor and buy a BRAND NAME frame. Wish I could have given this a Zero but Amazon starts at 1 star. Avoid Aluratek like the plague. I know I will from now on.

"Broke after four weeks of use" 2009-01-22

I received this for Christmas and loaded it up with photos to use in my office while I work. It has a beautiful display and the slideshow function works well, but only if you use the remote control. There is no way to have it do a slideshow without using the remote control. Don't lose the remote control. After having it for only four weeks, it broke today. I turned it on and the screen was full of static and it wouldn't respond with any button or the remote control. I tried to reset it, but there was no reset button. Don't buy it. It's garbage.

Well I was really excited to get a digital frame. Really looked into which one would be best for a Mac and this one looked good. The first one worked for ONE day. Amazon is the best, and replaced it right away, with another which worked for about an hour. Oh, and when I called the company's support line the first time, they told me it could be a faulty electric adapter, so if we had another one at home to try it. Well that didn't work. So I didn't even bother to call them the second time. I wish the real world would get with it and join the Mac world.

After a lot of searching, and knowing that NONE of the frames in the market is really "clean", here's what happened here:

We got it, liked the display quality (bright, very good resolution, nice frame) when we plugged in a flash memory card directly from a camera.

However, when we tried to load (using its own USB interface and built in software) more photos and music, we ran into problems with "not enough space" messages, corrupted files that were uploaded, etc.

But there's a solution, albeit not from the non-responding company support line and the empty (!) knowledge base on their web site.

It turns out you need to erase and reformat your flash drive as a FAT32 directory format (not FAT16, not old FAT). You can do that if you have one of those cheap general purpose multi-style flash card USB gadgets. I have 2 or 3 of those, I know I got some of them as a free gift so they must be cheap. On a Windows system, right-click the flash drive and select Format, with a FAT32 directory. On a MAC OS X use the disk utility to erase the drive, and it will format with the desired FAT32.

Then, what we did is collect all the files we wanted in a folder, and when we had all of them we copied and pasted all the files at once to the drive. Worked beautifully on Compact flash and SD drives that we tried.

I have a feeling that to add anything more, we'll have to re-erase and copy-paste, so we are keeping the content directory on the computer for now.... It was a nice challenge, but the frame works well now.

"Nice frame, with reservations...." 2008-04-29

Never having owned a digital frame before, I researched quite a bit before settling on the Aluratek. I like the big picture format. I download directly to the frame via a USB port and that's easy. I just have to be sure the pictures are cropped, color corrected, and in the proper orientation beforehand, since the frame will not perform these functions. And why should it? The reason for the 4 stars instead of 5...the remote. It is very touchy, often taking several tries before the frame responds. And if the remote is more than about a foot away from the frame, it won't work at all. So...is it worth it? The large display is great, the pictures look great, and it's fairly easy to use. Perhaps a little pricey, but I like it. (I never have used the mp3 function, so cannot comment on that.)

"Aluratek service and quality problems" 2008-04-28

I normally don't take the time to comment on products but the technical support of Aluratek is the worst I have ever seen. I purchased the model ADMPF110 and it was dead out of the box. I go round and round with their technical support via email and finally they give me an RMA to send it in for repair. I wanted to put this in the wall of a new house we are building so I needed it back pretty quickly. So I sent it to them over-night with all of the necessary paper work. 90 days later I get it back. By this time I had bought another brand unit to put in our new house. We were really busy getting the house completed so I didn't get around to looking at the Aluratek unit I got repaired under warranty unit about 3.5 months later. It was dead out of the box again! This time it made a faint clicking noise when turned off and on which was an improvement over last time, however, still nothing on the screen. Absolutely dead in all modes. Aluratek said that I had it over 90 days and that it was out of warranty and if I wanted to send it back in they would repair it for a fee. I explained that I never got to use it even once. The said it was out of warranty. I explained it was just barely out of warranty and they said it didn't matter, I should have checked it out when I first got it back. I told them that I am not their quality control department. Unless you want to get stuck with junk that doesn't work or unless you want to do the quality control for this company I suggest you don't buy any of their products.

This thing croaked after 5 months. I was really nice but then the pictures started fading out to black and white, then it just quit coming on the screen. Warranty is worthless after 90 days.

First of all the, the user's guide AND the remote is not intuitive. I had to refer to the user's guide a couple of times because I couldn't remember what buttons to push on the remote to delete a file. Also, when reading through the steps to perform an operation, the steps weren't very clear and I had to re-read and just play with it. So that's not so bad if you don't mind deciphering text.

The main problem I have with it is that it will not display vertical pictures correctly. You can use the frame's remote to rotate the picture, but it won't keep it that way...the next time it displays it's right back where it started. And you say, "OK, I'll use my PC to 'fix' it." I did that and reloaded the picture onto the frame, but it displays it zoomed in, so it cuts off people's heads. The weird thing is that I think it has the capability to display it properly because on some transitions, just before it flips to another picture, it displays the vertical photo correctly.

About the transitions, it sometimes displays your pictures in black and white. Oh, and one more thing...no matter what order you have your pictures loaded on the frame, it displays them randomly. To me, it's not worth 19.95 if you're sitting there getting mad at it.

The Coby DP888 has, for me, a fatal flaw that I feel should have been disclosed in the advertising. It can only recognize and show 2000 pictures from an SD card (and I would guess any other memory card type), even if the card contains many more pictures. Of course, over the course of a lifetime, many of us take far more than 2000 pictures. My 2GB SD card is only 1/3 full with 3300 pictures on it, so I expected the DP888 to be able to show a huge number of photos, but sadly, it can't. I wonder if Coby's more recent products continue to have this limitation.

I got two of these when they ran a special price on them and hoped they would be usable by my techno-peasant wife and 82 year old Mom. I knew I would have to load the pics for them but was unsure if it would be too complicated for them to turn on and show off pics of grandkids. With a couple of caveats, it is great for my purposes. It charges quickly and holds a charge for a long time. It is easy to turn on and automatically goes to slideshow. The pics are clear and big enough to see well (I had previously purchased my wife a keychain model that was worthless). It is easy to load pics but I would suggest cropping them and resizing them to less than 500 Megabites so that they are easier for this small processor to handle. It has a nice case to keep it from being scratched in their purses too. I may just get another for my daughter to carry pics of her cute kids.

"Easy to use, but..." 2008-05-11

I love the software that came with this frame--it's easy to copy lots of pictures, and it automatically changes the resolution for sharp pictures with minimum memory storage. But, if you copy a whole folder, it reorganizes the order of the pictures unless the numbers all have the same number of digits (eg. 001, 0002 to 0100 etc.) So, if your pictures are using the default numbers assigned by Microsoft software when renaming them (eg. 1, 2 ....10...100 etc.) then all the pictures beginning with one will be together (eg. 1, 10, 11...100, 101,)then you will see the series two photos (2, 20, 21....200) etc. The work-around is to load those photos individually or in sequential groups instead of copying a full folder. It takes a lot longer, though. If you don't care what order the pictures are in, then go for it! This has A LOT of built in memory, which is great--especially when you optimize the photos, it really could hold up to 2000 photos. Nice value for the price.

I bought this with the purpose of loading my husband's car show photos and other related photos onto a card and he is going to have it with him at car shows. I wanted something larger than the frames that Walmart carries in store but I didn't want to pay $200. I'm pretty impressed with this digital frame both for the size and cost. It was very easy to set up to use and the photos are large enough to be seen from a little way off. The only thing I wish was a little better is the resolution but for the price I really can't complain. The resolution isn't horribly grainy but I know what my photos look like.

Bought this frame for my Mom and her husband for Christmas. I was so pleasantly surprised at the great image quality! I'm a photographer and very picky about image quality. My images looked fabulous on this frame! Seriously, I was so surprised and thrilled!

I got it for $100 on Black Friday. I honestly wasn't expecting much, but it left me wanting this frame for myself (I'd even pay full price!!) and of course I can't find one in stock anywhere now. They must be a huge hit.

The size is just perfect, the black frame and white matting are classic and attractive, setup is a breeze (another pleasant surprise - my husband and I are tech savvy, but my Mom and her husband are not, but even they should be able to add pictures without issue - just drag and drop), the remote is handy, it saves your preferences when turned off and turned back on... my list of likes goes on and on, and I can't say I have a single dislike.

I definitely recommend this frame and I hope I can buy another for myself soon!

The picture quality is very good. The controls are simple. I bought this 10.4 inch frame for $100 !!. That is an amazing price for this product. The only drawback for me is that I can only download one picture at a time to the frame's hardrive rather than a whole file. I guess that's the kind of feature that is found on more expensive frames. No problem though. All I had to do was put the photos I wanted to view onto a memory card and pop it into the frame and, with the press of one button, enjoy the memories.

Overall, I'm very happy with the product.

This product is a nice size. The picture quality is excellent for the price. The features allow auto display of pictures continuously or to freeze frame the shot you like. You can download pictures directly from camera to the frame which is great for travellers. Love it!
